The University of Bordeaux ISVV is participating in a new Erasmus Mundus (EM) program on innovation in wine tourism.
In the framework of a Call for Proposals for a "Common Joint Master's Degree" in 2015, the European Commission selected the "WINTOUR" common Master's program delivered by three European universities combining tourism and oenology knowledge: University of Bordeaux - ISVV (Institute of Vine & Wine Science), University of Porto (Portugal) and University of Rovira i Virgili (Tarragona, Spain), which is also the program coordinator.
All three universities are situated in highly popular tourist regions, having been awarded the UNESCO global heritage label, and possess long winemaking traditions. The value added by this program resides in its vast network of private partners (11 in all), which have joined forces with the consortium and will host students on internships.
WINTOUR has consequently been awarded the Erasmus Mundus label and will receive funding for three graduating classes of students, starting in September 2016.
The call for applications will be launched in early 2016 for the recruitment of the first students, and the best applicants from Europe and worldwide will receive grants.

Content

The WINTOUR program provides 120 ECTS over a period of two years and four semesters.

The teaching during the first three semesters will be delivered at the universities of Tarragona, Bordeaux and finally Porto, in turn, while the final semester will be devoted to internships, which must be carried out in the establishment of one of the project's partners, most of which operate outside the university environment.

The teaching program will consist of modules on wine tourism, wine marketing and winemaking, in addition to winegrowing heritage. Three types of different internships will be proposed (in winemaking, wine tourism and wine marketing) with non-university partners, which will pay an active role in the students' training.

Career opportunities

The WINTOUR Master's program will allow students to acquire basic knowledge of science (winemaking), applied tourism (development of new methods in tourism), and management.
Training in entrepreneurship and corporate business management will also be provided, including on courses delivered outside the university setting.
The aim of this program is to provide multidisciplinary training and award a diploma to qualified students who will be capable of performing competently in a completely new profession in the wine sector and of adapting it to their personal contexts.

Admission requirements

The classes will be taught in English in all three universities.
