A former convent, built in the 1950s, stands at the heart of the Haut-Carré estate. Chapel, cloister, library, and living quarters for some sixty nuns—such was the commission for this estate, located at the time at 43 Chemin des Briques, now Rue Pierre (Bienvenu) Noailles, named after the founder of the congregation.

Now a hub for the dissemination and promotion of research, scientific and industrial culture, the Haut-Carré estate can host scientific conferences and symposia, award ceremonies, cultural events, and temporary art exhibitions. The university's president and administrative offices have been located there since January 2016.

The building's architecture is inspired by the austere style of Cistercian monasteries. The Agora's bell tower, meanwhile, is reminiscent of the Romanesque campaniles of Northern Italy (such as the Leaning Tower of Pisa), bell towers (with a bell) pierced by arcades.

Twenty-four stained-glass windows, on the theme of travel, further enhance the chapel's beauty and are the work of the French master glassmaker Gabriel Loire (1904-1996), whose creations "shine throughout the world with prestigious commissions," such as those for Salisbury Cathedral in England, the Bird Tower at the Hakone Museum of Modern Art in Japan, and, of course, the Agora chapel in the Haut-Carré district.

The main entrance to the Haut-Carré is located at the roundabout where Rue Pierre Noailles meets Rue du 7ème Art. GPS coordinates: Latitude: 44.8089479 – Longitude: -0.5955238

  • From Bordeaux city centre: Tram line B towards ‘Pessac Centre’, Forum stop. Tram information
  • From Bordeaux-Saint-Jean railway station: Tram line C towards ‘Les Aubiers’, Quinconces stop. Then take tram line B towards ‘Pessac Centre’, Forum stop. Tram information
  • From the ring road: Exit 16, towards Domaine Universitaire. Head up Cours de la Libération in Talence. Pass the main entrance at 351 Cours de la Libération in Talence. At the next roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Rue Pierre Noailles. 100 metres further on, on the right, is the entrance to the free municipal car park. Then continue to the roundabout and enter the Haut-Carré estate (3rd exit).
