After spending the early part of his career as a lecturer and researcher in aquatic ecology and ecotoxicology at the University of Paris-Sud, Thierry Caquet joined INRA in Rennes in 2001 to lead research into the impact of chemical pollution on aquatic ecosystems. From 2013 to 2017, he was head of the Department of Forest, Grassland and Aquatic Ecology and director of INRA’s meta-programme on the adaptation of agriculture and forestry to climate change.

Since June 2017, Thierry Caquet has been Scientific Director for the Environment and a member of INRA’s Executive Board. He is also a member of the Scientific Council of the French Agency for Biodiversity (AFB), the Scientific Council of ADEME, the Scientific and Technical Council of IGN, and the Scientific Steering Committee of the National Research Alliance for the Environment.
