Michel Chapoutier is an emblematic French winemaker from the Rhône Valley and the head of Maison Chapoutier. He is widely recognised for having profoundly transformed the family estate by shifting it towards biodynamic viticulture in the early 1990s, with a highly demanding approach to vineyard work and respect for terroirs.
A visionary and committed figure, he defends the idea that wine is the purest expression of soil and place. This philosophy has led him to reject standardised practices in favour of parcel-based winemaking and minimal intervention.
Under his leadership, the estate has also expanded internationally, notably in Australia and Spain.
Beyond his role as a producer, he is an influential voice in the wine world, regularly speaking on issues of sustainability, taste, and the future evolution of wine.
